TROMSØ NORWAY INFORMATION GUIDE
Norway, Scandinavia
Tromso Norway Tourist Information provided by FIVE CONTINENT GROUP, (FCG):
Many visitors to Tromso are surprised that a city located 250 miles north of the artic circle can live up to its reputation as the “Paris of the North.” Tromso has 50,000 inhabitants – 10,000 of them students at the world’s northernmost university. The city limits cover more than 980 square miles, making Tromso Norway’s largest municipality. An impressive array of museums, shops, restaurants and the largest per capita concentration of bars in the country satisfy the needs of locals and the visitors who flock here in the summer for one reason – the Midnight Sun. From mid-May until the end of July the city operates a cable car that shuttles visitors to the peak of nearby Mount Storsteinen. From here there are commanding views of the town, of birch forests and of high mountain lakes. Though not as popular as the Midnight Sun, the “Gateway to the Artic” does offer one spectacular winter viewing opportunity – Tromso boasts world-class views of the northern lights.
