Playing at Las Brisas Golf Course represents an achievement in any golfer's yearbook. Las Brisas offers a challenging but enjoyable experience. It has hosted the World Cup twice, the Spanish Open 3 times and as well as the Mediterranean Open. Water is a major feature and must be crossed or avoided on twelve seperate occasions!
The Real Club de Golf Las Brisas was inaugurated in 1968 by don josé banus (after whom Puerto Banus is named), who chose an American…Robert Trent Jones…already one of the World's finest designers to create the course. Trent-Jones had just completed Sotogrande Golf Courses and after Las Brisas went on to design Los Naranjos Golf and the renowned Club de Golf de Valderrama, setting for this year's Volvo Masters.
The Course comprises 18 holes, Par 70 and offers the usual facilities: Buggy hire, Clubs hire, Hand cart rental, Restaurant & Bar.
The Spanish Open held in 1987 was won brilliantly by Nick Faldo, followed by Severiano Ballesteros, only two strokes behind, with the latter beating the course record with 64 strokes in the Pro Am played the day before the competition.
In 1989 the World Cup was held at Las Brisas for the second time and won by the Australian team, lead by Peter Fowler and Wayne Grady, with the Spanish team formed by José María Cañizares and José María Olazabal as runners up.
During these years Las Brisas attained excellent sporting results with its teams and representatives, especially within Andalucía.
Apart from playing host to the best golfers in the world, our Club has been visited by numerous personalities and celebrities. In 1970 Prince Rainier, Princess Grace of Monaco and Karim Aga Khan attended the inauguration Gala at which a young Julio Iglesias sang. Liza Minelli and Bing Crosby were amongst the celebrities who have been at Las Brisas.
